“I don’t know when I’m a mom and when I’m a wife. But I am always a #humanrightsactivist” Cuban dissident and leader of the Ladies in White movement Berta Soler who was born on July 31, 1963. The Ladies in White also known as Damas de Blanco movement was created after the “black spring of Cuba” in 2003 when her husband and other political dissidents were imprisoned. The group, made up of wives & female relatives of the political prisoners, marched down Havana’s 5th ave, dressed in white, on sundays. She stated “Today, we continue to fight for all the political prisoners, more than a hundred, and for respect to the inalienable rights of the Cuban people”
